Going to note down stuff catch me if I misinterpret somehow.
what I've found over the years is a lot of the reason boards dissolve and cliques form is due to poor communication between members, staff, and just in general there is a sort of allienation in one way or another either blatantly or subtly expressed even if unintentional. Open communication is an attempt to get everyone on the same page in most contexts. Like if I were to say something you did ICly offended me a bit and it was intended by you to be a character devicor there would be a way of expressing it to one another openly to calm tensions. That example just being put mildly so to speak.
As per the upgrade thing. Again I understand where you're coming from with your idea. It is plausible, but the problem is writing it down to a concrete detail. I'm open to listening to a pitch if you have it all worked out but otherwise I don't see it as being presently viable. I would hope do work towards it in some future setting but right now there are other pressing matters to my schedule and I do apologize if I seem rather cold to the idea its not intended.
Compromising however to the idea, something Sarah and I have worked on in the past was a reward system based on tactful RPers. The initial usage of such got overused and exploited, giving out stats for every social thread that was exhibited. Perhaps on this site we can employ a similar trend again. Again this maybe just me, but open a social forum to pick out like 5 threads each two weeks and reward those in which we see particularly good role playing, character development, cool instances we see popping out as something of a reward for awesomeness and show that as RPers we're all out for some awesome good times. Feedback on that?
The item system I was having in mind was steming first off of Roger's initial prospect. We have the Student items and them the Teacher item sets. From there we can make a different sort of set down the road. Something of course based off of what you just mentioned. Yes I like the idea of conditional item effects, I think that would be great/fun to employ in our later item system.
As for the Stats in context to fighting and general usage. I personally use them similarily to mentioned above, granted I do take into account what is mentioned in the post, if certain actions are undergone I give credit to the RPer who made thme and altercate my post to express surprise, shock, or failing to react to a motion thus covering the gap in stats. I am a STRONG believer in the ability that RP can dwarf stats in a thread. That stats no matter how DEFINITE they are define that the fight is won or lost from the get go. Sure it may be overwhelming or difficult but nothing is lost.
---Uh...Why would constant communication with members be a factor? Not sure I understand the reasoning behind this. Sorry...
