Patrick heard the scream and was attracted to it immediately. To him it was like a siren's call. Why? He wasn't really sure, he wasn't the type to play hero anymore. But maybe it was that past instinct that drew him there. Or maybe it was the idea that someone might be about to get raped that drew him. Even though he didn't care to play hero, the idea of rape had always been particularly disgusting to him. Even in an amoral state he had been known to stop it and perhaps even kill the perpetrators. Perhaps that's what pulled Patrick to the scene, he had always been sort of magnetic to trouble anyway.
When Patrick arrived at the scene though it would appear that someone else was already on the job. That suited Patrick just fine anyway. The irishman did note however that the woman was still sobbing against the wall. He would call out to her, "Get out of here."
Regardless of the outcome she didn't need to see what was about to take place, nor did she need to stick around any longer. She complied almost immediately, running off in her torn clothes sobbing as Patrick turned his attention back to the scene unfolding.
The Kid had been doing well, against four? attackers, however now he was bogged down and found himself on the ground. While Patrick himself was a fan of grappling, it was not a wise idea to get into such a fight when you were outnumbered. That was a fact that the kid was learning the hard way. While he did have one of the attackers incapacitated, and another possibly heading there he appeared to be getting the shit kicked out of him, quite literally, by a third attacker.
What would Patrick do to all of this? Nothing. His presence would have been noted by now but Patrick wouldn't move to join the brawl. This was the current hero's fight. He would have to see this through to the end one way or the other. Don't get Patrick wrong the would be rapists would get what was coming to them, if not through hero number 1, then through Patrick. Patrick just didn't feel obligated to help someone who had rushed into a gang fight. He would offer once piece of advice though, "Ye have to kill or otherwise incapacitate the guy in yer triangle, immediately."
That was the truth, regardless of whether the kid wished to be a killer or not, that was most likely the course of action left to him. It would be so easy to break the guys neck too. In times past Patrick would have straight up told the guy to kill him. But now? Well Patrick didn't feel like going out of his way to try and create another killer. However, the kid might not have that luxury anymore. As it stood, it appeared like the only two options at this point were kill, or be killed as it wouldn't exactly take long for the third unaddressed participant to get involved. Nor was it too much of the stretch of the imagination to assume that one of the two guys would collect whatever weapons the hero and disarmed and use it on them on the kid again. But if the kid could figure out a way to deal with the situation without killing any of the guys in his unadvantageous situation, more power to him...

As he watched the rest of the brawl play out Patrick considered the fact the he may have overestimated the gang's intelligence. Because if they had been smart, and really wanted to win, while the "hero" was tied up on the ground one of them would have gotten up and stabbed the kid to death. But as it stood they were not, and in a display of fortitude and martial skill the kid dispatched the other, his eyes widening as he picked up the knife to throw it. The "hero" hadn't broken the neck of the other guy but he was about to throw a knife into some one? Patrick's intrigue on that line of though ceased though, when the knife sunk into the man's shoulder, at the same time he wondered if that was just luck.
"She was shaken up but she'll be fine," Patrick said calmly. She hadn't been raped, violated a little but not in that way. There would be a little shame, but she'd be fine. The "hero" had gotten there on time.
The "hero" asked him who he was, though there was more to his question then simply who he simply was. Patrick had an idea, though he wasn't entirely sure, nor was he sure he wanted to answer that question. So the simple thing was to ask the same question in another form, in a flat tone, "I could ask the same of ye."
Patrick didn't really care to just answer every question that might have been asked. This wasn't show and tell time. Hell, that would be a fairly bad idea for the irishman. The less people generally knew about him the better, for everyone's sake. He was not a safe person, and because of that he had enemies. They were in the background more and more often with his identity coming out. They had a hard time finding him because of his nomadic lifestyle, but when they did, they followed from a distance usually until they were given the slip. Probably it was nothing more then to keep tabs on him, or possibly to let Patrick know that he was being watched. They hadn't done anything yet but Patrick was always looking over his shoulder, just in case...

[/s] I just turn so my back's against the wall, and take in a few calming breaths. My arms and sides hurt like hell, but my ego's doing well. But I guess I digress. I'm a poet and didn't even know it, baby.[/ul] [beige]"That's a pretty long name."[/beige]
I let out a light chuckle just so he'd know I was joking, were he unsure.
[beige]"What made you come over here if you weren't going to throw in your own two cents? And by cents I mean fists. And by that I mean help one side or the other."[/beige] [beige]"I don't mean to offend you or anything, I'm just - y'know - curious."[/beige]
Just had to be sure he was sure and all. [/teal]

Patrick gave a chuckle at his joke. Half of it was out of an attempt to show the kid that he wasn't about to murder him, while the other half was because well Patrick always thought that that kind of cheap humor was kind of amusing. Especially because he was one to make snide comments left and right as well. So he couldn't fault the kid for that.
"I did come to help the woman, however I saw ye were already on it. I'm not a big fan of fighting other people's battles for them, or playing the hero, but rape is something I draw the line on," Patrick answered, figuring it did a pretty good job of why he showed up and didn't help the kid. Not that he was particularly malicious, at least not in this moment anyway. He just didn't feel like playing the hero to the kid, though he was glad, at least on some minor level, that the kid made it out okay. His disdain for rapists being high enough that he'd rather see the kid succeed then fail, just because of his opponents.
"Ye did well to disarm them though," Patrick admitted, sure the kid had gotten his ass stomped pretty good, but all things considered he did a good job of not getting stabbed. At the very least Patrick figured he could give credit where credit was due...

[beige]"Ah. Well, uh, I'm the same way I guess. Only I'm sure you wouldn't have gotten your ass kicked like I just did."[/beige] [beige]"Thanks for that. I guess."[/beige] [/i] about the situation, but you get what I mean.[/ul] [beige]"The name's Kiyong, Mr. "I-could-ask-the-same-of-ye". In case you were curious."[/beige]
I'd grin. [/teal]

"What doesn't kill ye only makes ye stronger right?" Patrick shrugged with a chuckle. He wasn't the type to brag, so he said nothing, but he was apt to agree with the kid. He had thrown himself in these types of situations plenty of times and come out unscratched on an occasion or two. But he meant what he said to the kid, because before he had gotten to where he was now, he'd gotten his ass handed to him more then his fair share of times. So long as you learned from your mistakes and were able to survive them, you'd more forward.
When the kid extended his hand towards him Patrick would take it shaking it with a firm grasp and a chuckle, "The name's Patrick."
There was no harm in pleasantries and so Patrick didn't mind giving him his name, besides he had given him his own. Besides this kid was a bit more interesting then your average run of the mill people you met on the streets. But he did look rather green as far as the whole fighting thing was concerned. So out of curiousity he asked, "Ye new to this whole "hero" thing?"
For lack of a better term...

[beige]"Not always. AIDS."[/beige] [/i] a joke, since it was true. I saw the point, though, and I appreciated it for what it was. I can't really say I've been in enough situations to make me a "stronger" person, because I've lived a life of luxury. Getting in actual fights was entirely new to me.[/ul] [beige]"I'll tell you I've had my fair share of scuffles, but they were just that. Scuffles. Seeing some actually try and hurt, really hurt someone else..."[/beige]
I wanted to deny it, say I played the hero all my life.
[beige]"Yeah."[/beige] [/i] get my ass kicked in the process.[/ul][/teal] [beige]"And yourself? I'm guessing you have a little more experience in this "line of work"."[/beige]
