Patrick frowned as the teacher told him to share a book with the two in front of him. He wasn't particularly fond of being that guy. The third wheel being forcefully inserted for the sole reason of breaking things up between the pair of, whatever they wanted to call themselves in front of him. Patrick gave a little sigh before moving to the outside of the group, next to Cael, the easiest path the take. Sitting down next to the kid he asked in a tone that was less then enthusiastic, "Ye mind if I look on?"
Figured that even though it would seem that the whole thing was forced, there was nothing wrong in going through the motions. Besides, Patrick didn't particularly intend to use the kid's book anymore then he had to. Hell, he only wanted to be more of a fly on the wall anyway.
Well, it looked like it was his turn for an emperor, so he spoke up, picking the easy one. "Augustus Caesar. Adopted son of Julius Caesar who was his uncle. Became the first emperor of the Roman Empire after being the dominant member of the second triumvirate. He was known for creating the Roman Empire as we call it today, and starting a period known as Pax Romana, or roman peace, lasting about 200 years."
Patrick's Roman history wasn't exactly sharp, but he could spout of a few facts here and there...

Oh, she might have thought of the rest of the world and those around her as toys, but Cael was something entirely different. Not that she would actually owe up to that little fact, but it was the truth none the less. No, there was something about him that she liked, genuinely liked, though she could not quite put her finger on it.
Whatever the case, she would just grin at his agreement to meet her after class and turn back to her book, a little glare shot to the teacher who, in her mind, intentionally told what's his face to move up and share with one of them. Yeah, she couldn't remember if she had caught a name that night on the street, or if that had been left to the unknown, and she didn't really care. All she cared about was the blatant attempt to cease her flirting with Cael. Not that it would work, but whatever, the attempt was annoying just the same.
"Commodus, or as he later liked to be called, Lucius Aelius Aurelius Commodus Augustus Herculeus Romanus Exsuperatorius Amazonius Invictus Felix Pius, which is a name he adapted himself over many years. He was Emperor of Rome from one hundred eighty to one hundred ninety two, though from the year of one hundred and seventy seven, he served along side his father, Marcus Aurelius, until his death."
She pursed her lips slightly, finger lightly tapping her book as her mind ran down the information she had learned on the emperor back in her time at school in France. Though honestly, she had probably done more research on the matter than she should have, having nothing better to do with her time, seeing as how she was alienated from the other kids at that point due to her little .....quirks. "Unlike the time of his Father's reign, his time was marked by a period of peace, at least as far as the military goes, though there was quite a lot of political strife and not to mention issues pertaining to the Emperor himself. Upon his assertion to the throne, he devalued the Roman currency which at the time, was the biggest devaluation since the reign of Nero. Though perhaps one of the things that Commodus is most famously known for, is his obsession, for lack of a better term, with Hercules and his association of himself with the demi-God. He had always seen himself as being godlike, having great power, physical prowess, whatever. So, in order to prove this he would fight battles against gladiators and beasts, and eventually reached the point where his tendencies reached megolomaniac proportions." She nodded, rather satisfied with her moment of nerding out and falling silent as she leaned back in her chair and let out a small breath, rather bored with all this already.

Usually Cynara was the quiet type, but as she sat there and she listened to what was being said, she could not help but have a nagging sense at the back of her mind, that something was off. Not particularly about what the brunette had spoken, or the one who had moved up to share books with them, but more so about what had been said by the other one...the first one. Shane? Or something like that.
Still, she waited her turn, letting those around her speak before she would clear her throat and hesitantly sit forward in her chair. "I...I would have to disagree with...with umm...Shane?" A little wince to apologize, more for potentially getting his name wrong than anything. "But that, however true, is not what Caligula was and is most famous for. If anything, his achievements in life are far outweighed by his insanity and his cruelty, which I believe you touched upon, but simply seemed to skim over." A little glance given to Shane speaking of course to him.
"Though it is true that he did sleep with the wives of married men, it should be noted that those men were members of the Senate and that often, during orgies he would auction of the wives to the highest bidders. He is also known for incestuous relationships with his sisters, one in particular, who he would have perform oral sex upon him while he sat and watched people being brutally tortured. He would also partake in eating while watching prisoners being tortured or decapitated in front of him, and for awhile, he was attempting to have his horse made a member of the Senate..." She paused, pushing the glasses up onto her nose. "Though that last part is debatable as to if it was due to his insanity or more so to the fact that he thought a horse could do a better job."
She softly bit her lower lip and would glance down at her desk before continuing. "S..Should also be noted, that he would dress as a lion, fighting gladiators, and that he would often...umm....wander the halls of his palace at night ordering the sun to rise. In an attempt to further his battle with the sea God Neptune, he marched his army all the way to the coast, in order to have them collect seashells, and one of his sisters fell by his hand as he disemboweled her in an attempt to retrieve the child that he impregnated her with. So, ye...yes, he might have done a few good things, but overall, his rule was one which was brief and filled with fear and cruelty. To assume that any of the good he did, outweighs the cruel and vicious tendencies that he had, of which there are many more, would be depreciating the value of his legend. Sure, it may not be the best legend, b..but it is what he is essentially known for and what still sparks debate today. He ruled through fear, and was selfish, and spiteful and a horrible man, far too young and unready for the duties which were thrust upon him and it shows in his actions during that time."
With that, she would slink back into her chair and nervously begin to fidget with the corners of her book, not exactly sure she had done the right thing in questioning the boy, but not really sure it was right to let an answer like that go by unquestioned.

Damn
Michael silently cursed to himself as the girl behind him mentioned the first Roman Emperor he could think of. His body tensed up, shoulders rolled all the way to his neck in an uncomfortable sense suggesting that he was focusing intently on shielding whatever answers he had on his paper from her looming gaze, even though all the answers were in his head.
"Marcus Aurelius," Yes go with the typical movie stereotype emperors. "was Roman Emperor from 161 to 180 AD. He ruled with Lucius Verus as co-emperor from 161 until Verus' death in 169. He was the last of the "Five Good Emperors", and is also considered one of the most important Stoic philosophers. During his reign, the Empire defeated a revitalized Parthian Empire; Aurelius' general Avidius Cassius sacked the capital Ctesiphon in 164. Aurelius fought the Marcomanni, Quadi, and Sarmatians with success during the Marcomannic Wars, but the threat of the Germanic tribes began to represent a troubling reality for the Empire. A revolt in the East led by Avidius Cassius failed to gain momentum and was suppressed immediately."
He'd casually take a large fuming breath inwards before falling over on his table in an exhaggerated fashion.

"Ye mind if I look on?"
Cael winced away slightly, he felt as though he needed to be deloused or something due to the close contact of the person slinking in behind him. No, Cael wasn't familiar to the guy's face and didn't beg to insist on getting to know him so would proceed in a double take looking to Ary and then to the teacher and back to Pat.
"Sure, its cool."
He'd wince briefly as the decision was made mostly under duress however now forced to split from the girl who was playing along with their little game. Cael had half a mind to force Pat out of the equation so he could get to his goal but something made him back off potentially it was Pat's facade or maybe the teacher's presence as a whole.
"Nero, He is infamously known as the Emperor who "fiddled while Rome burned", although this is now considered an inaccurate rumor, and as an early persecutor of Christians. He was known for having captured Christians burned in his garden at night for a source of light. This view is based on the writings of Tacitus, Suetonius, and Cassius Dio, the main surviving sources for Nero's reign."

Over the man's shoulder the bell would ring signalling the class's end. Alistair was caught unawares as he had been delving into some interesting stuff at least by his medal. The Ancient Roman Emperors were some pretty cool guys. Caligua, Nero, Caesar. A wide grin crossed his features upbeat to the notion of going deeper but sullenly that grin would shrug away and dissipate.
"Excellent points, excellent points all around. I apologize I half expected this class to last twice as long as it did." The man would take a quick delve into looking at his watch flicking it back before addressing the class once again.
"I will be assigning you to read chapters three through five on Ancient Rome and Greece. Anyone who wants extra credit next period will write me a comparritive essay on Greek vs. Roman Gods."
Alistair would sort of bow out before turning back to his desk to fiddle with th cabinet he was storing booze in for later.
Everyone recieves +3 Exp, I will reward actually doing the extra credit assignment. If you attend 5 of Alistair's classes I will give you a final grade and a test for extra... cuz I like being complicated. <3

OOC: Alright, I was giving all you guys time to post up your reactions to class ending, but since it seems that you guys just opted not to, then I am going to officially close this thread out and award Alistair $300. This is for running a full class, in a timely fashion and managing to make it both interesting and educational. In other words, because he kept things from getting boring and never let the class lag.
Ali will be able to start a new class in June.
If there are no objections, this thread will now be locked.
