Emilia stood in the locker room, staring at her reflection in the mirror and tugging slightly at the tiny skirt which she now wore before falling away and lightly tracing her finger along the scar which ran the length of her left thigh. Never had it seemed more visible than in this moment, yet she couldn't let herself dwell on that fact. Nope, she had already signed up, done her try out and now, she was officially part of the squad.
Of course, her Mother had nearly had a heart attack when she had brought home the paperwork. A long lecture on how she needed to think this decision through soon followed, and it had taken Emma's Father coming in and shushing her Mom to end it all. She hated it when her mom doubted her like that, but at the same time, she supposed she could understand it. She was technically, disabled, and though she liked to believe that she could do anything anyone else could, she knew that there were possibly limitations. She had just not run into any yet.
No, so far she had managed to overcome anything that was thrown her way, and that was something she was rather proud of. Today's challenge had been no different. She had gone out there, and she had done the best she could do. Granted, it had not been easy, especially trying to keep up with everything that the head cheerleader said and did, but she had managed just the same. Now, if she could just keep up what she was doing, if she could just follow along with the rest of the girls, and not fall flat on her face, she should be alright.
A heavy sigh given as she would nod to her own reflection and then spin around to bounce off toward her locker. She was going to wear the outfit home, since it was the end of the day, that way she could surprise her parents as soon as she walked through the door. She knew they would be happy, and she knew that her Mother would laugh and become all bubbly. Probably tell her some story of her days as a cheerleader back in high school. The thought of which made Emma smile as she slung her bag up onto her shoulder and bounded out of the locker room and into the gym.
Anytime she could make her Mom feel like she had a normal daughter that she could do normal stuff with and talk to about normal things, it made her day. Just because she thought herself normal, didn't mean others did, and so moments like what she was headed for were few and far between, and she loved them.
An extra little skip in her step as she neared the rear exit of the gym which led outside, thrusting the doors open and bouncing outside. She had to walk today, since her parents were going to be busy...but that was okay. She knew far too well how to manage her way through busy streets and she knew the be extra alert in this new, bigger city. It would take her awhile longer that it did most, but she would get there none the less. Besides, it would give her time to really just bask in the moment and reflect on her newest achievement.
